These joints along with its components including the muscles, ligaments and fascia facilitates the movements of the jaw which aids in functions such as talking, eating, chewing etc., Any abnormality in the structure or function of these joints are collectively termed as Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMDs). RADIOLOGY & DIAGNOSIS
Diagnosis is the key to a successful treatment outcome. Even for a seasoned clinician, radiological diagnostic aids like CBCT, MRI, Sonography helps in correlating the clinical signs and symptoms with crucial findings such as a compromised joint space, airway analysis etc. It is not only important for a proper diagnosis but helps in ensuring a course of treatment that won’t prove to be detrimental to the prognosis of the case. Day 3 starts with the most poignant of all protocols required to treat neuromuscular disorders - DIAGNOSIS
IMPORTANCE OF OCCLUSION
A stable myo-centric occlusion with zero-interference disclusions should be the final reprogrammed bi-maxillary jaw position. Gone are the days when dentists used carbon papers and thick articulating papers to check for occlusal disturbances. An elite panel of doctors will lecture on how to incorporate the latest in technology for increased data collection helping the dentist treat the patient more precisely.
TONGUE PHYSIOLOGY
Tongue is a muscular organ which plays a crucial role in the over all growth and development of the body. Any abnormality in the tonicity, musculature and posture of the tongue, including in rest and sleep can be detrimental to an individual’s overall health. Contrary to the popular practice a tongue abnormality is not only confined to speech problems and breastfeeding issues, but also due to its connection with the fascia, there would be huge postural discrepancies. This next group of doctors will help us understand the importance of tongue tonicity and fascia physiology. And how controlling it would help in a better bi-maxillary jaw shape and position.
POSTUROLOGY
Posturology is an evolving science for dentists that treat TMD. The multidisciplinary approach to ensure proper alignment of the body has to begin with the highest point on the postural chain - TMJ. Posturology addresses pathologies resulting in any shift from an aligned frame. These pathologies can be a result of a bad habit like prolonged screen time or even a compensatory adaptation of the jaws and related structures. This section involves a group of specialists who will explain how every change in the jaw position will elicit a change in the cervical position and vice versa.
