Abstract:The relationship between occlusion and posture: an approach from clinical examples
Posture is the active process of developing and maintaining the configuration of different body segments in space. It is the result of both tonic and phasicmuscular activity.
The “postural system” is a multisensory and multimodal system associating in a system different information encoding spatiality, called postural inputs, whose purpose is the maintenance of the erected station and its stability in space.
Postural deficiency syndrome can be understood as a defect in the control of postural oscillations that compromises stability by altering muscle activity. Some authors believe that it is a disruption of postural tonic activity that compromises stability. There does not seem to be a consensus on this topic as on many topics concerning posture. The role of dysocclusion in posture dysregulation is also subject to discussion.
For us, clinical occlusodontist, our role is to treat our patients by establishing as accurate a diagnosis as possible taking into account most of the sensors that compromise stability and what is the role of dysocclusion in this postural deficiency.
We offer you, by examining together 2 clinical cases, how we establish a diagnosis and the result of our treatment. Diagnosisis a real police investigation.
From 5 indices, we establish a diagnosis: Questionnaire, clinical examination, surface EMG, mandibular tracking, strength platform and radiology. Two months after the implementation of the treatment, we do a control using the EMG and the force platform.
